This dashboard shows media-reported road traffic incidents in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
It is not an official police or government crime database.
Sources
Public news websites (and optional YouTube channel extracts) are scraped for accident-related articles.
Each row keeps a source name and original URL.
Deduplication
Incidents are stored with a unique source_url. Re-scraping the same article does not create duplicates.
Severity
Severity (fatal, major, minor, unknown) is inferred from article language at scrape time.
Treat it as a media-facing label, not a medical or legal classification.
Geocoding
Place names are matched against a landmark list and/or public geocoding.
Points can be approximate; rows without coordinates still appear in the list.
Map
Default view is the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The basemap uses OpenStreetMap tiles.
A DataMeet India outline (OSM-derived, simplified for web delivery) is drawn on top so the country frame
includes the full northern extent and the Andaman & Nicobar islands. Pan is limited to
the India region. See also

Limitations
- Coverage follows what media publish. Under-reporting and outlet bias are expected.
- Dates and locations may be incomplete or wrong in source articles.
- Low total counts can make the map look sparse; that does not mean roads are safe.
- Density risk visualizations are deferred until the dataset is much larger (N ≥ 200).
